EXAMPLE OF RAILWAY APPLICATION
You are in a line-blocked Green Zone working
at night. It is raining and you have but a
few hours to set up monitoring points on
200-metres of cold and dirty double track.
Using the Sentripod
System
you quickly hammer the target boxes on to
the base flange,
You return to your instrument control
station, only to find it covered in pandrol
sacks. The minutes fly. You move along and
re-section from three bridge mounted
Sentripods.
After 2 hours of data capture, a work team
moves in causing you to lose sight of the
track. You move to the opposite end of the
job, re-section back to
Sentripod
control points and proceed to observe
opposite sides of the targets. Problem
solved. Time saved. Job done. Now for the
bacon breakfast and strong coffee…thanks to
Sentripod
and, of course top class surveying!
Two months later, Spring has arrived; piling
all done and daily monitoring of the
Sentripod
is competed. Time to recover 200 targets.
Having been delayed on the back of a T2
possession all
Sentripod boxes are promptly
released by lever bar and gathered up.
Having cleaned them for re-use, you make
your way back to the Resident Engineer.
You ask about a bonus. If only we had a
camera!
NETWORK RAIL
APPROVED
Network Rail Accept non-invasive
Sentripod
in Safety Method Statements and do not need
product approval. It is listed in the SERCO
catalogue as such. The systems of work
classify segregated worksites by the term
"green zones" while non-segregated worksites
are known as "red zones". Where work is pre
planned, generally known as an "engineering
possession", similar segregation procedures
to green zone is applied.
RED ALERT
Red Zone was increasingly phased out and
green zone working demanded the use of
remote systems of rail monitoring, now
common practice in our age old Network.
Halcrow Rail has
since used on high-speed track and led to
the development of the heavyweight stainless
steel Mounts used today. Team Surveys of St
Austell and Dean and Dyball now use
Sentripods
in Railway contracts in UK and Ireland.
